Difference between the Internet and the World Wide Web

The difference between the internet and the world wide web, or just the web
as its commonly referred to is simple yet often confused with one another.

The internet is really a massive network of networks that is available to
anyone, anywhere, anytime. It is an infrastructure that connects networks across
the world. These networks include both hardware, such as computers, servers,
cables and more as well as software.

When you send an email or access an app on your mobile or simply sending a file
from one computer to another, you are using the internet – this does not
necessarily mean that you are using the web though. There is a difference.

The Web is just another channel that is used when data is to be transmitted over
the internet. In order to do so you have to enter a string of characters
referred to as a URL (Uniform Resource Locator) into your browser. The URL
describes the location of the document that is written in HTML (Hyper Text
Markup Language).

In short, the World Wide Web is one of the services provided by the Internet.
File transfers, email and chat are among the other services that the Internet
provides.
