Setting Social Media Goals

When a business takes off it’s an exciting time for the business owner, understandably so. Your first instinct might be to share it with the world, so, what do you do? You hop onto social media (given that’s where people are most active), and you set up Facebook and Instagram pages for your business.

But after you’ve added all the information you’ve been instructed to add and completed all the ‘steps’, now what?

At this point, you might be tempted to publish your first post. But ask yourself – do you have a plan of action mapped out? If not, we reckon you hold off posting.

A social media strategy is in essence an action plan geared towards social media. It takes into account: your social media goals, the efforts that need to be put into place to achieve these goals, which platforms are best suited for the type of business you have and which content types you’d need to focus on.

And, a strategy is also the backbone that’ll allow you to measure both paid and organic success on social media.

But here’s the thing – people tend to underestimate the importance of a social media strategy, and quite often, they’ll neglect it altogether.

What’s your social media strategy?

No two businesses are the same, so your social media goals and the platform you use will depend on the type of business you have.

Let’s take a look at some common social media goals businesses tend to set for their pages.

1. Increase brand awareness

If there’s one thing social media platforms are great at, it’s spreading a message far and wide. So, if the goal is to increase your brand’s awareness, you want your brand to be discovered by as many people as possible.

How do you get there? Broaden your reach. Communicate what your brand is about, your brand values and what products you are selling or services you are offering. More importantly, make sure your content resonates with your audience. The more impactful people find your content, the more it will encourage them to share it.

The aim should of course be to have a great organic reach, since that is unpaid viewership. The alternative, which many businesses have found effective is to reach more people by means of boosted content or paid campaigns.

2. Drive traffic to your website

On its own, social media is good for business, couple it with a website and you have a winner! And if we have to be honest, social media can never replace a website.

Social media platforms will often redirect people to your website, as this is generally where most conversions take place. Be sure to add your website link to your bio and in your posts.

3. Increase sales

A boost in sales is one of the top goals for any business. Whether you are an e-commerce brand or run a service based business, with the right social media strategy, you can easily and effectively increase your sales.

4. Improve customer satisfaction

As a communication tool, social media can be utilised for so much more than educating people about your products or services. If you take time to invest in meaningful communication and conversations with your followers, you build trust and improve customer satisfaction, which ultimately leads to brand loyalty.
